STRONG RELATIONSHIPS DELIVER NEW HOMES IN MANCHESTER
Soil and waste products from Marley Plumbing & Drainage are being installed on a major residential scheme in Salford, set to provide 497 high-rise homes.
One Greengate is a landmark residential development in Salford, currently under construction and with phase 1 due to complete in January 2016. The scheme will breathe new life into a key city centre site, covering 1.2 acres and providing 497 one, two and three-bed apartments, penthouses and townhouses for private rental. Designed by local architect OMI, it comprises two towers of 31 and 21 storeys, the tallest standing 88m.
The height of the buildings, as well as the sheer quantity of plumbing required, presented considerable challenges for the design and construction team. Marley’s technical advisors took part in several pre-contract meetings with developer Renaker Build and specialist building services contractor A Millington to develop the specification.
On One Greengate, PVCu soil and MUPVC waste pipes from Marley were specified, along with Multikwik traps and WC connectors. The breadth of the product range offered by Marley and its sister companies within the Aliaxis group was an important benefit, says Martin Millington, director of A Millington. “We went to Marley because they could offer everything that we needed on both the drainage and the soil and vent side. They also offer a good design service and a material take-off service too – if we’d done it ourselves, that would have taken the best part of a week, so it makes a big difference.”
Marley’s soil and waste products are also manufactured to stringent quality and performance levels and are certified to British and European standards including BS EN 4514, BS EN 1329 and BS EN 1566. This provides peace of mind to specifiers and installers and provides the level of durability required on such large, complex projects.
This is the latest in a series of projects by developer Renaker Build on which the Marley product range has been installed. Tony Crusham, Marley Project Sales Manager, explains: “The quality of our products was key to the specification, as were the strong relationships we’ve developed. We’ve been working with Renaker Build for the last 15 years and with A Millington for the last 20, so our relationship is second to none.”
As with previous projects, Marley’s technical team has continued to play an active role during construction, supporting the contractors to make any alterations to the design that have been required as the build has progressed. As Martin Millington explains: “They haven’t left us to deal with it alone, they are there on hand if we need any advice. What we like about Marley is that they start with you and they’re there to help you throughout the scheme. That gives you confidence – you become like a team.”
