Environmental Approach
Our approach to the Environment
Marley Plumbing & Drainage operate an integrated Environmental Management System.
We are committed to reducing the impact that our manufacturing and logistics operations and product ranges have on the environment.
Marley Plumbing & Drainage are members of TEPPFA, The European Plastics Pipe and Fittings Association. The objectives of TEPPFA are to play an active role in questions relating to the environment and sustainable development and to provide for European representation in the areas of environment, certification and standardisation and promotion of plastic pipe systems.
PVC4Pipes is the new association founded in Brussels in 2003 with the mission of developing and promoting sustainable PVC piping systems in the global market. It will also work to complement the existing associations and industry bodies involved in the PVC pipe arena, help stimulate the innovative power of the industry and demonstrate and promote the strength and success of PVC piping systems.
Key areas of action
Working towards a cleaner environment:
- Oil elimitated for heating in 2005
- Target to convert 10% fork lift trucks from diesel to LPG in 2006
- Utilisation of delivery vehicles, backloading where possible
Reduction in waste:
A massive reduction in waste for landfill was achieved in 2005. 50% of waste previously sent to landfill is now recovered as baled cardboard, plastic sheet or PVC.
Development of heat recovery systems in manufacturing areas.
Reducing the risk of pollution:
The provision of a new storage facility for lubricating and hydraulic oils, thus minimising the possibility accidental spillage to drain.
Sustainability:
Much of the water used in the production process is already recycled. In addition to this a Marley rainwater harvesting system has been installed for use in the Training Centre. Waterloc, the Stormwater management cell, has been used as a soakaway installation, during landscaping works at the Lenham manufacturing site., Further opportunities will be investigated during 2006/7.
Product development:
- Development of products which promote good sustainable practice - Waterloc.
- Elimination of lead stabilisers in the manufacture of PVCu pipes and gutter by the end of 2006.
- Developing products with longer life characteristics.
