The top prize being presented by Fiona Bashford, Marketing Communications Manager from Marley Plumbing and Drainage.
It was a golfing tournament that tested the skill and endurance of every one of the 1200 golfers...who battled it out over six knock-out rounds between March and September this year, culminating in two winners emerging victorious! Martin O’Kane, HMD Chartered Architects and Daniel Henry, Benson Estate Agents were crowned overall winners at the Grand Final of the Golf Classic, the construction industry’s largest and most prestigious golfing event held in October on the Brabazon Course at The Belfry. This is the 15th year for the event and since its launch in 1993, 40,000 golfers from the industry have teed off making it a significant networking event, with new business relationships and friendships forged on and off the green.
This year’s tournament was one of the biggest yet, sponsored by some of the most well known names in the construction world including Marley Plumbing and Drainage, Tarkett Marley Floors, Cupa Natural Slate, Hamerville Magazines, and Knauf Drywall, whose Marketing and Business Development Director, Peter Willsher gave the final speech. Knauf Drywall were also runner-up in the sponsors’ competition, with Cupa Natural Slate taking first prize. Exemplary weather ensured the event was enjoyed by everyone as consequent feedback revealed:
"Thank you for a fantastic day and event. Everything was superb and a good day of golf was enjoyed by all members of our party!"
"Thank you for a lovely weekend, we all had a great time and can't wait for next year at Celtic Manor!"
Next year, the tournament returns to Celtic Manor, a fitting venue, as they are to host the prestigious Ryder Cup in 2010! All finalists from the 2007 event are automatically entered into the competition with the fee being waived, a fitting tribute to the dedication of this year’s Golf Classic golfers! As Peter Willsher pointed out in his speech,
"Over the years we have learnt that it is not always the players with the lowest handicap that achieve the ultimate accolade. That’s the beauty of golf – it’s a great leveller!"
