Alutec is the answer for rural restoration

A leading expert in the restoration of period rural buildings has chosen Alutec rainwater systems from Marley Plumbing and Drainage for a refurbishment project on a historic Dartmoor farmhouse.

Marley's high quality aluminium guttering is not only durable, offering a long maintenance-free life, but it also gives the appearance of cast iron in a much lighter and cost-effective product that does not need painting.

Nick Fell of The Fell Partnership says that he specifies the Marley Alutec product whenever possible and has used it on a number of projects in the past.

The partnership's most recent project was the complete refurbishment of Youlditch Farm House, a traditional Devon long house in the Dartmoor National Park. The work included changing the roof pitch and replacing the existing asbestos slate roof with a reclaimed random width, diminishing course slate roof and re-roofing another part of the building with corrugated steel.

To match the original granite walls and smart new slate roof Nick Fell chose Alutec Classic, an ogee-section gutter, in a steel grey powder coated finish.

"The main reasons we choose Alutec are its longevity, quality and reduced maintenance requirement. It is a very good product, with a good choice of colours. Plastic guttering just doesn't compare. We have used Alutec on a lot of grant-aided projects as an alternative to cast iron," he says.

"It is lighter, easier to install, and it doesn't need any maintenance. It also works out cheaper than cast iron. It is already powder coated so you don't have to spend time and money priming and painting it."
