Ventilation

All drainage and sewerage systems require adequate ventilation to the open air in order to reduce the build up of toxic or explosive gases and to maintain atmospheric pressure when effluent flows through the drainage system. Ventilation should be provided at the head of a drain, normally through a soil stack, but not through a manhole.

Note: If you are installing a new soil stack or drainage system, or significantly altering an existing system, you will need to inform the Building Control Department at your local Council. You will need to demonstrate that the work carried out conforms to Building Regulations: England & Wales or Scotland
