Other Material Connections

Clay pipes

If you wish to make a connection to an existing drain, you will first need to establish the existing drain material. The age of your property may be a clue, but the best way is to expose a section of the existing pipe.

Marley manufacture underground drainage pipe from plastic (PVCu). It is made to British Standard and is therefore compatible with all other PVCu pipes also made to British Standard (which is all plastic pipes supplied in the UK). The other common material for underground drain pipes is clay. Vitrified clay pipe is the most modern form of clay pipe and can be recognised by a smooth matt surface and black plastic couplings. This type of clay pipe comes in a thin wall version (made since the early 1980's) and a thick wall version, manufactured in the 1970's. Salt glaze pipes are the earliest form of clay pipe and were still being used in the late 1960's. Other materials include ductile and cast iron and pitch fibre.

Material Adaptor to PVCu
Thin wall clay UCA40 or UFA2
Thick wall clay UCA41 or UFA2
Salt glazed clay UA41
Cast or ductile iron UA47 or UFA1
Pitch fibre UA41

If you need to replace a clay coupler, use UFA3.
