Siting of Fans

Incorrect siting of an extractor fan can severely impair its efficiency. It is therefore important that the fan is correctly sited using the following principles.

  • To ensure maximum air flow through the whole room, mount in the window, wall or ceiling furthest from the air inlet point and at high level
  • Do not position a fan where temperatures are likely to exceed 40"( (for example above a cooker hob or eye level grill)
  • A fan installed in a bathroom must not be within reach of a person using the bath or shower
  • Always use an In-Duct Fan to ventilate a shower cubicle.
*

Ducted Applications

Where a duct passes through an unheated roof void, insulation should be used to minimise condensation formation. Horizontal ducts should allow the condensate to drain away from the fan.

*

Important

The electrical connections must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations & lEE Wiring Regulations.
