Term	Description
Air brick	A product designed to replace a brick in the outside wall of a house, to provide passive ventilation
Axial fan	A type of extractor fan. Using an axial impeller, this design of fan is generally used where air extraction is over a short distance
Building regulations, Part P	Building regulations with regard to electrical safety. All installations must be carried out in accordance with these regulations.
Centrifugal fan	A type of extractor fan. Using a centrifugal impeller, this design of fan is generally used where air extraction is over a long distance
Cooker hood	Extraction unit, normally above a hob. Used for extraction of odours and steam produced when cooking.
Duct	A pipe, tube or hose by which air is transmitted
Extractor fan	A device design to extract air from a room. Normally utilised to remove foul or otherwise polluted air or to reduce condensation by removing moist air.

Impeller	Internal rotating disc of an extractor fan
In-duct or in-line fan	An extractor fan situated in a duct
Passive ventilation	Normally provided via a grille, with no electical or mechanical means of moving air.
Storm guard	Protective cover to prevent damage to a rotary window ventilator in high wind.
Tumble dryer kit	Consists of flexible hosing, external grille and connector to tumble dryer. Designed to extract hot steam from a tumble dryer through an external wall.
