Where to use which trap?

Appliance Recommended product Preference
Vanity/wash basin
  • 32mm bottle trap, WBT3W
  • 32mm P-trap, WPT3W
  • 32mm Slimline pedestal trap, KXT32XR
  • 32mm S-trap, WST3W
Depending upon position of waste in relation to basin outlet.
Sink
  • 40mm P-trap, WPT4W
  • 40mm S-trap, WST4W
Bottle traps are generally not recommended for kitchen sinks due to likelihood of blockage.
Bath
  • 40mm low level P-trap with access, WBP42W
  • 40mm P-trap with access, WPL42W
  • 40mm low level bath trap, WSB4W*
Dependant on space between floor and bath. WSB4W is not recommended where waste pipe is connected to a soil stack.
Shower
  • 40mm low level P-trap with access, WBP42W
  • 40mm shallow shower trap, KXT4XR*
  • 40mm low level bath trap, WSB4W*
Shower trap has a removable waste for cleaning.
Sink/bath overflow fittings
  • Flexible overflow pipe, WOP1W & WOP2W
  • Bath overflow outlet, WBO1W

* These items have a 20mm water seal depth (conventional traps have a 50mm –75mm water seal depth). It is recommended that their use is restricted to ground floor baths and showers that discharge to an external trapped gully. They should not be fitted to appliances where the waste pipe is connected to a soil stack.
