Thermal Movement

A 3m length of PVCu pipe will increase in length by approximately 3.6mm when subjected to a 20°C temperature variation. Therefore it is important to ensure that any movement is controlled and ring seal joints are installed to accommodate any expansion.

Waste systems should include an expansion coupling where pipe length exceeds 1.8m or between fixed points.

Jointing

Solvent weld joints

For best results ensure all joints are clean and that end of pipes have been cut square and are free from burrs at the edge.

To make a joint, simply apply a uniform coat of solvent cement around the outside of the pipe and the inside of the fitting socket. Whilst solvent is still wet, push pipe fully into fitting and allow 8 hours for complete setting.

Notice: Instructions for safe use of solvent cement are printed on the outside of the container and should be followed at all times.

Ring seal (push fit) joints

For best results ensure all joints are clean and that end of pipes have been cut square and are free from burrs at the edge. To make a joint simply apply a uniform coat of silicone lubricant on the outside of the pipe and push the pipe fully onto the fitting.
